I’m back from a month’s travel in the American continent. I am truly blessed to be able to travel that, with all the meetings, sightings and experiences that come with that. I could write a lot more about travelling and travels (in fact, at one point I did, when I had a travel blog) – but that is not what this blog is about.
A few short reflections regarding this blogs core topics from my trip though;
- It is such a miracle every time I visit different countries in the world to realize how much alike people are, (even though we are also very different) – and how much we understand each other. Even if we do not speak the same language. And by this I mean really not speak the same language. During my time in Colombia, very few I met spoke any English at all. And I don’t speak Spanish (more than a few words). But it works, somehow, anyway. We cheated in the beginning, admittedly, being guided around by our competent and multi-bilingual friend. But even without his presence, we could manage. When my daughter’s Spanish skills didn’t suffice, other methods came to use. Amazing, what all these digital tools can help with in terms of communication. And if that didn’t work, good old Body language still holds its value! This is something I will write more about in coming posts about public speaking; keep an eye out for the post on delivery, body language and “actio”.
- It is also a blessing to allow myself to just indulge in the experience I’m having at the moment, without analyzing it or trying to structure or narrate it too closely. Letting my mind rest in the present, and freely experience all the images, sounds, smells, and words, is a way for me to keep energy and balance.
Now, I’m back to a fall full of exciting events, meetings and inspiration. And a whole lot of communication! I very much hope for the same for you who read this.
So – here’s to new and communicative starts!
